How to Use Citrus for Everyday Cleaning

Citrus fruits like lemons, oranges and grapefruit are great for everyday cleaning around the house, especially when combined with basic household products like vinegar or baking soda. Citrus fruits contain an acidic compound known as d-limonene - a natural solvent that cuts through grease and dirt, is antibacterial and antiseptic, and it acts as a natural bleach. Not to mention leaves your home smelling fresher than ever!

How can you use citrus for daily, non-toxic cleaning?

One way is to create your own cleaning solution by soaking citrus peels in white vinegar. After soaking for two weeks, remove the peels and dilute the vinegar with an equal amount of distilled water (you can add more water if you prefer a less potent cleaner). Pour the solution into a spray container, preferably glass, and use your spray to clean all surfaces*.

Spruce up your homemade cleaner by adding things such as rosemary, mint, thyme, vanilla, cloves, cinnamon sticks, etc.

Don't have two weeks to wait? Simple mix lemon juice with a half and half mixture of white vinegar and distilled water for an instant natural cleaning solution.
